Tarbert Notes - Week Ending 2nd October

THE OPEN AA: meeting held in the Community Centre on Friday night was most informative and enlightening and great credit is due to the Tarbert Group of Alcoholics Anonymous who organised this first open meeting. The large crowed attending warmly applauded each speaker as they told their stories and experiences of their problems with drink and how their lives have changed since joining the AA. Thanks to the ladies who served the tea and refreshments and to Séamus Enright for the sandwiches.

BEAVER SCOUTS The Tarbert Beaver Scouts resumed activities in the Community Centre on Monday, September 29. New leaders are required for the continuity of the Group’s future — contact Eileen Holly or Julie Finucane. New children can only join with the commitment of one parent/guardian to help out with the Monday evening activities held at 5pm. The Leaders of the Beaver Scouts wish to thank the people who gave of their time and helped out during the past year.

CO LEAGUE: Our senior football team are top of the points table in Div 4 of the Co League as a result of their one point victory over Moyvane on Saturday evening in Clounmacon sportsfield. Tarbert won on the score of 0–10 to 0–9. This was a thrilling game of football played at a championship pace, with the points vital for both teams. In a closely contested first half, Moyvane led at the break by 0–5 to 0–4. In this half Tarbert missed a number of scoring chances and had a penalty well saved by the Moyvane goalkeeper. It was now score for score in the opening quarter of the second half, then a brace of points scored by John Holly and Darragh Lanigan gave Tarbert a three point lead with ten minutes to go. Moyvane hit back with their top scorer, Eddie Bowler, kicking over two points to leave just one point between the sides. In the final minute and well into injury–time excitement was at fever pitch as Moyvane tried to say the day but Tarbert’s defence and goalkeeper, D Enright, held out to the final whistle for victory. It was good to see John O’Connell back to his best for Tarbert. Others to impress were: D O’Connor, K Wren, C Holly, S Deenihan.
The team lined out as follows: D Enright, J Wren, D O’Connor, B Carrig, C Deenihan, C Holly, S Deenihan, S McGinley 0–2, J O’Connell, E O’Connell, K Wren, D Lanigan 0–2, P O’Connell 0–1, O O’Connell 0–1, J Holly 0–4. Sub who played: M Sheehan.
Tarbert now have one game left ti play in the league and that will be a home game against Laune Rangers B, who are just one point behind Tarbert. Our neighbours Ballylongford are just two points behind Tarbert, so it is still all to play for as only two teams will be promoted to Div 3.
