DEATH:  Sincere regret was occasioned in the Parish, more especially among the older generation at the news of the death of Mrs Mary Frances Holly (nee Goulding) Doonard and The Square, Tarbert, which took place at the residence of her son, John Flynn, Doonard on July 28. In her mid 80's, she was one of the old stock of the parish and a popular member of an old established and widely connected local family and had only been ill for four days before her death. Before she was taken ill she was still driving her car as usual to town and to evening Mass, which she never missed in St Marys Church.
Mary Frances was very popular and highly respected in the local community and will be remembered for her concern for the sick and elderly with whom she regularly visited in their homes and in the hospitals. A hard worker all her life, she was of a light hearted and friendly disposition and a good neighbour. The deceased lady was a woman of great faith and over the years organised several parish pilgrimages to Knock Shrine and to the Ardfert Retreat Centre. She was also an esteemed member of the Tarbert Choir for many years.
There was a huge attendance at the removal of her remains from her son's residence to St Marys Church, Tarbert and again at the concelebrated funeral Mass and burial which took place in the adjoining cemetery. The chief concelebrant at the Mass was Very Rev Mossy Brick PP, Tarbert. The other concelebrants were Very Rev Philip O'Connell PP, Ballylongford; Fr Liam Murphy, Fr Tommy O¹Hanlon, Fr James O¹Hanlon and Fr Martin Buckley, all natives of Tarbert. At the Mass the Parish Choir sang a number of latin hymns including the old Gregorian Chant, sung by Declan Downey. Mary Frances is survived by her sons John and Michael Joseph, daughter Mrs Mary Veronica Fitzgerald, daughter in law, Mrs Joan Flynn, son in law Michael Fitzgerald, nephew John Goulding, Carhoona, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchild, relatives and friends to whom sympathy of the community is extended.
