HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS to Fr Liam
Murphy Sallowglen, Tarbert on the celebration of the golden jubilee
of his ordination to the priesthood on July 6th. He is one of eleven
children, three brothers and seven sisters and is son of the late
Paddy and Mary Murphy, Sallowglen.
Fr Murphy celebrated the occasion with his community at Rockwell College
goes back to 1940 where he began his secondary studies there. Then
at the age of 18 years he decided to join the congregation. He was
ordained in 1953. One year later on the completion of his studies
he went to West Africa - Nigeria and worked there as a missionary
till the Biafran War caused him to return to Ireland. He then took
two periods of further studies and in between times he taught in Rockwell
College. On retiring from teaching Fr Murphy concentrated on retreats
and helping out in parishes. At the present time he works in the Cathedral
in Limerick.
The occasion of Fr Murphys jubilee was also a reunion for the Murphy
family as members of the family were together for the celebrations.
Members attending were his sisters Sr Marie Jude Roscrea. Sr Eileen
Florida, Mrs Phil Walsh Sallowglen, Mrs Jane Ryan, Lislaughtin, Ballylongford,
Mrs Liz Blundell, Cheshire. Mrs Bridget McIvor, Manchester brothers
Jimmy Florida and Nicholas New York and another brother Fr Michael
Murphy, Liverpool was unable to attend. In the words of Liam Murphy
he says Today gods influence on human lives seems to be denied
or ignored. The witness of celebrating many years of commitment to
high ideals such as christians to the vows of their baptism, to christian
marriage to the vows of reiligion or to the priesthood is needed,
To his albiding presence and salvation we attribute our genorosity.
In the second place we pay tribute to the family. Its tradition of
prayer, the primacy of god and social involvement leading to a closely
knit unit is the source of many graces leading to perseverance and
fidelity. On behalf of the community the writer would like to
wish. Fr Liam many more years of happy and fruitful ministry. |

after 10 minutes. Then a well taken goal by Conor Lanigan brought
Tarbert back into the game. Tarbert then added five more points. Listry
to lead at half time by a score of 1-7 to 0-6. The second half was
evenly contested for long periods and entering the final quarter,
Tarbert led by five points. Listry hit back to score four points in
sucession to leave just a point between the sides. This was a slack
period by Tarbert who realised they were in trouble and came back

by the Tarbert back line and goalkeeper Noel Kelly held the Listry
