Tarbert Notes - Week Ending 4th July

THE CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION   held on Saturday evening was again a very special event for the community, the parish and the residents of Doonard Crescent. The huge crowd who took part included many members of different organisations in the parish, carrying their banners and flags, and the various groups of children and the junior infants carrying their baskets of petals.
As the procession left the Church the children formed a guard of honour and cast petals on the road in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Leading the procession were the F Company of the 15th infantry battalion, Listowel FCA,  who also gave a special salute n the Church at the consecration of the vigil mass. As the Eucharistic procession passed through the town, prayers and the rosary were led by Caroline McLoughlin and the singing of the hymns was led by the mixed choir, accompanied by Pat Higgins on the guitar.
It was gratifying to see the many homes decorated with altars, holy pictures and flowers for the occasion, when the procession reached Doonard Crescent the crowd stood in silence as the Blessed Sacrament, carried by Very Rev Mossy Brick, PP under a special canopy, was taken to an altar for open air benediction.
After the Benediction, Fr Brick blessed the crowd and the four corners of the parish and then everyone joined in with the choir for the singing of the old Irish hymn, Faith of Our Fathers.
Fr Brick then thanked the organising committee and their Chairman, Billy Buckley, and paid tribute to the residents of Doonard Crescent for the effort they put in to make the procession such a success. He paid a special word of thanks to the F CA Company and to the Gardai for all their help.  He also paid special thanks to Caroline McLoughlin for her participation and to Donal O’Sullivan for the excellent sound and amplification he provided.
