  Tarbert Notes - Week Ending 8th May
   
  THE  organisers of the Charity Walk held in Tarbert on Good Friday in aid of Listowel Hospice wish to thank most sincerely all who helped and participated in the walk and also wish to thank everyone for their generous contributions. The amount raised from the Tarbert walk was a massive €4184. A special word of thanks is due to Mary Kelly for all her help.
The Soup Kitchen held in the Community Centre on Good Friday in aid of Listowel Hospice, which was part of the Lenten Programme, realised the sum of €1250. Thanks is due to the ladies who made the soup, to Kevin O' Connell and all involved and to the people of the Parish for their generous support.  Both cheques will be presented to Listowel Hospice Group in the Community Centre on this Thursday night, May 8, at 9pm. All are welcome.
This was a phenomenal achievement for these two events on Good Friday and great credit is due to all concerned.
   
  SUCCESSION ATHLETES :  Well done to the three Prendiville sisters Aoibheann, Sorcha and Sinead of Pulleen, who represented Ireland in the Leamington Grand Prix of race walking held in England recently. Sorcha and Sinead competed in the U15 3000m walk. Sorcha, despite not being well the morning of the race, just missed out on the medals, finishing in fourth place in a time of 15.10 minutes. Sinead also put in a fine performance to finish in eighth position. Aoibheann competed in the U17, 500m walk event and finished in an excellent sixth position. The sisters who are members of Listowel AC will be underage to compete in this age group of events again next year.
At the county championships Track and Field held last weekend at An Riocht Track, the three sisters finished in the first three in the U16 3000m walk.  Sorcha came 1st, Aoibheann 2, and Sinead 3. Surely a proud result for the three athletes and their parents. Also at the championships a fourth sister, Julie, brought further success for the Prendiville sisters when she came home 1st in the girls U14 1000 walk.
   
  GAA LOTTERY:  There was no winner of the €8700 jackpot in the GAA lottery draw held at Coolahans Bar on Friday night. The numbers drawn were 2, 5, 14, 25. Lucky dip winners of €30 each were Tom Scanlon, Tom Buckley, Jackie Holland, Anthone Enright. Bar prize winners were Mary Meade €30 in the envelope draw; €15 each to Eleanor O' Connell, Siobhan Stack, Shane Langan.  Promoters prize €15 to Swanky Bar. The Club wishes to thank Tomás Coolahan who supplied sausages and chips for the huge crowd present at the draw. The next jackpot will be €8800 and the draw will be held at Carmody¹s Bar on this Friday night. All are welcome.
   
  CO LEAGUE: Our senior team are away to Churchill in the county league on this Saturday evening, May 10, at 7pm.
   
  GAA MEETING:  A meeting of the Tarbert GAA Club will be held in the dressing rooms on this Thursday night, May 8, at 9pm. All officers and committee members are asked to attend.
   
  ROSARY: The Rosary will be recited every Wednesday evening during the month of May at 7pm, at the Grotto in the Square.
   
  COLLECTION:  The Annual Labour Party Church Gate Collection will be taken up this weekend.
 
  RESIDENTS DRAW: The winners of the Kilpadogue - Woodview Residents Association Draw held in April were Breda Histon - 1st prize hand painted vase; Karen Mulvihill - 2nd prize roast of beef.
   
  THANKS:  The organisers of the Church Gate Collection held recently in aid of Our Lady¹s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin wish to thank all who contributed so generously. Amount collected was €643.
   
  SET CEILI:  West Limerick Set Dancing Club will hold a Set Ceili in the Convent Hall, Abbeyfeale on Sunday, May 11, at 4pm. Music by Fodhla Ceili Band. All sets called. Session afterwards in Bucky Dan¹s.
   
  U16 TEAM:  Our U16 team are through to the semi-final of the North Kerry League following their victory over Beale in the last round of the competition. Tarbert won by a score of 3-9 to 2-3. Scorers for Tarbert were Stephen O¹Connor (2-1), Gavin O¹Donnell (1-2), Shane Enright (0-4), Ciaran Lanigan and Niall Kelleher (0-1) each.
In the earlier rounds of the competition, Tarbert scored victories over St Senans and Duagh, drew with Moyvane and lost to Ballylongford-Asdee. Tarbert will play Ballylongford-Asdee in the semi-final this weekend. The teams will be selected from the following panel of players - N O¹Connor, J Enright, J Wrenn, A Sweeney, C Flynn, K Enright, M Normile, S Enright, K Shanley, T Holly, J Sweeney, C Lanigan, G O¹Donnell, S O¹Connor, S Mullane, K Heffernan, L Dillane, A Kelly.
   
 

CO LGE WIN :   At Shannon Park on Saturday evening our senior team gave their best display of the season when they defeated Duagh by a score of 0-14 to 0-10 in the county league. Duagh, who played with the wind in the first half led at half time by a score of 0-9 to 0-5. Tarbert dominated the second half scoring 0-9 to Duagh¹s 0-1. Tarbert back line and goalie more solid in the closing stages of the game as Duagh tried for the vital goal. Making an impressive debut on the team was A Lanigan scoring three points.

  JUNIOR TEAM:  Our junior team play St Pats Blennerville in Shannon Park on this Friday evening at 8pm, in the first round of the county junior league.The team are through to the semi-final of Div 4 of the North Kerry League.
