CENTENARY CUP: In a clearly contested Centenary Cup game played in Shannon Park on Saturday evening our senior team lost by a point to Ballylongford by a score of Ballylongford 1-7 to Tarbert 0-9. The sides were level at half time 1-3 to 0-6.
In the opening period of the second half, Denis Kiely kicked over three fine long range points which were to be Tarbert's only scores of this half. Entering the final ten minutes of the game the sides were still level after Ballylongford missed several more good scoring chances. Tarbert dominated the final minutes of the game and it was disappointing for their supporters to see six good scoring chances missed by the forward line as well as many more during the game. In the final minute Ballylongford caught Tarbert out of position and broke upfield to score the winning point to the delight of their supporters. Except for the goal, Tarbert back line played well over the hour.
Best for Tarbert were Denis Kiely (0-3), Eugene O'Connell, Alan Langan, Eoin O'Connell (0-1), Shaun McGinley (0-1), who was making a welcome return to the team after a long absence due to his knee operation.
