CONGRATULATIONS
to the two Tarbert athletes who won medals at the Munster
Juvenile AAI Indoors finals held in Nenagh last weekend. Aoibheann
Prendiville won gold in the 1500m walk and silver in the 1500m U16.
Shane Enright won silver in the 60m hurdles and also won silver with
the relay team in the U16 200m. Both athletes are members of Listowel
Athletic Club and now go through to the All-Ireland finals which will
be held at the end of the month. |

GAA:
There was no winner of the €7800 jackpot in the GAA lottery draw
held at Coolahans Bar on Friday night. The numbers drawn were 3, 16,
22, 28. Lucky dip winners of €30 each were Josie Mulvihill, Thomas
Mulvihill, John Kissane, Jerry Carmody. Bar prize winners were €20,
Fintan Scannell; €15 each to Kitty Griffin, Patrick Carmody,
Katie Mullane. Promoters prize €15, Finbarr Carrig. Thanks to
Tomás Coolahan for the chicken and chips for everyone on the
night. To mark the celebration of St Patricks weekend, the jackpot
will be increased by €200, bringing the jackpot to €8000
and the top prize in the envelope draw will be €200. The draw
will be held at Carmodys
Bar on this Friday night and there will also be an Irish night of
music and song. Everyone welcome. |

LEAGUE: Tarbert senior team are fixed to play Renard in the
opening round of the county league at Shannon Park on this Sunday. |

GAMES
CANCELLED: The Murphy Cup final between Tarbert juniors and
Brosna and the North Kerry senior league game between Tarbert and
Brosna were not played last weekend, due to the atrocious weather
and pitch conditions. |

FASHION
SHOW: Tarbert Comprehensive School Parents Association will
host the Annual Spring/ Summer Fashion Show at the Lanterns
Hotel, Tarbert on this Wednesday, March 12, at 8pm. There will be
a wine and cheese reception. Tickets at €10 will be available
at the door on the night. Proceeds are in aid of the School Book Scheme.
Your support will be greatly appreciated. |

PRES
FAMILY CTR: A Lenten Reflection Afternoon will take place at
Presentation Family Centre, Listowel on Sunday, March 23, from 3-6pm.
Josephine Fitzgibbon will facilitate this reflective period of input
meditation and personal work. Also a Drug Awareness Evening will be
held at the Presentation Family Centre on March 25, at 8pm. Detective
Shane ODriscoll will give a talk on drugs. All are welcome. |

CONGRATULATIONS:
And best wishes are extended to the proprietor of the Pagoda Chinese
Restaurant opened recently at Church St, Tarbert. The newly refurbished
premises was formerly owned by James and Joan Murphy, who ran a bar
and restaurant business. Back in the 40s the same premises was
the local bakery owned by the late Battie Lavery. |

DEATH:
The news of the sudden death on March 6, of Mr Frank Kelly, ex-Garda
Siochana, Carramore, Claremorris, Co Mayo, was received with sadness
by his aunt, Mrs Bridget Egan, Tarmons and his many cousins in the
Parish. He was son of the late Eddie Kelly, Knock, Co Mayo and late
of Desmond, Tarbert, who died just five months ago. Frank is survived
by his wife Marion, sons Darren, Daniel and Stephen, daughter Gráinne;
mother Mrs Peg Kelly, brothers, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends
to whom sympathy of the community is extended. |

NY DEATH:
It was with regret the football friends of the 50s in the parish
learned of the death in New York of Mr Tommy Hennessy, late of Main
St, Ballylongford. Tommy was well known for the support and help he
gave to so many emigrants from North Kerry in the late 50s and
60s. Sympathy of the community is extended to his wife Kitty,
son and daughters, to his sister in law Mrs Bridie Hanrahan, Carhona,
Tarbert; to his cousin Mrs Minnie OSullivan, Main St, Ballylongford
and to his other relatives and friends. |
