Tarbert Notes - Week Ending 19th April

THE organisers of the charity walk in aid of Listowel Hospice, which took place in Tarbert on Good Friday, wish to thank most sincerely all those who participated in the walk and they also wish to thank the people of the
parish for their very generous contribution. The amount raised from Tarbert was €2,560.

ST MARY’S CHURCH: It is expected that the church radio system will be connected on Wednesday and the transmission of the Mass from St Mary’s church to the housebound in the parish will commence this weekend, April 20 and 21. The first Masses to be heard in the homes will be the Vigil ass at 8pm on Saturday night and the 11am Mass on Sunday morning. Many generous contributions towards the cost of the system have been given by organisations in the parish and by parishioners.
Before the announcement of the Vigil Mass on Saturday a presentation of two beautiful sets of vestments was made to Very Rev Mossy Brick, PP, in memory of the late John Skae, Haverstraw, New York, who died on March 15. The vestments were presented to Fr Brick by Kathleen Skae, daughter of Kathy (nee Kiely) and the late John Skae. This nice gesture to St Mary’s Church by the Skae family to the memory of John is much appreciated by the parishioners.

NK LEAGUE: Our senior footballers went down by a point to Ballyduff in the NK League game played in Shannon Park on Saturday evening. Two late goals gave Ballyduff a 2–8 to 1–10 victory.   TIDY TOWNS: As a result of a public meeting held on Monday night of last week, it was decided to have a total clean–up of the town which will take place on this Wednesday night, April 17. Everyone who is prepared to be
involved is asked to assemble at The Bridewell at 6.30pm. While this will be the initial clean–up, each Estate/District will be expected to keep up the good work in their own areas during the summer months.

U–14 TEAM: Tarbert under 14 team continued their winning run in the County Bórd na nÓg competition on Monday evening when they defeated Duagh by a score of 0–7 to 0–5. After trailing by two points at half–time, playing with the wind, the team put in a great second half performance to gain victory.
The team play Austin Stacks team in Shannon Park on Monday evening, April 22, at 7.30pm and it is hoped there will be a good turnout of support for the team.

Seán who is Chairman of the Munster Council will take up his position as GAA President next April. During his years as Kerry County Board Chairman, Seán was a popular guest at a number of Tarbert GAA socials.
