DEATH:
It was with sadness and deep regret the news was received in the Parish
on Friday morning, January 31, of the death of Mrs Mai Cregan (nee
Ryan), St Patricks Terrace, Tarbert. After an illness patiently borne,
these past months, Mai died peacefully ast her residence iwth her
husband Michael (Mickie) and niece Therese Ryan at her bedside. During
the last weeks of her
illness, Mai was privileged to have the great care of her husband
and of the nurses and doctor in her own home. She was a member of
a highly esteemed local family and was daughter of the late Paddy
and Kitt Ryan, Dooncaha, Tarbert. Mai will always be remembered for
her humility and gentleness and her loving nature and concern for
her neighbour and many friends. Over the
years she always had a warm welcome in her home for everyone and especially
for the children of St Patricks Terrace. She was a woman of great
faith and during the past few months when she was unable to attend
Mass, she found great consolation listening to the radio Mass from
St Marys Church, Tarbert.
There was a huge attendance at the removal of her remains shouldered
from St Marys Funeral Home to St Marys Church, Tarbert on Saturday
evening and again at the concelebrated funeral Mass and burial which
took place in the adjoining cemetery on Sunday. The chief concelebrant
of the Mass was Very Rev Mossy Brick PP, assisted by Fr Tom McMahon,
Knockanure. Family members participated in the readings, prayers of
the faithful and offertory procession. After the prayers of the faithful,
Liz Kelly recited the poem "Miss Me - But Let Me Go"in memory
fo her sister. At the end of Mass, Gene Kelly paid a lovely tribute
to his Aunt Mai, and recalled his happy younger days spent with Mai
and Mickie in St Patricks Terrace. Mai was pre-deceased by her brother
Bill Ryan, who died 13 years ago and is survived by her husband Mickie,
sisters Mrs Kitty Joyce, London; Mrs Liz Kelly, Tarbert; Mrs Eileen
Gallagher, Australia and Mrs Bridie Chute, Tarbert; brother John,
Dooncaha, brothers in law, sisters in law, Aunt, nephews, nieces,
cousins,
relatives, neighbours and friends to whom sympathy of the community
is extended.
A number of relatives of the deceased travelled form London for the
funeral including her sister Kitty and members of her family and her
niece, Niamh Gallagher. Nephews Gene and Colm Kelly travelled from
New York. Among the attendance at the Funeral Mass and Burial were
John Cregan, TD and Justice Michael Pattwell. |
