Prior to the AGM, a minutes silence was observed to the memory of clubdevelopment officer, Morgan Burke, and Vice President, Paddy Scanlon, who passed to their eternal reward during the past year, and also to all
families in the parish, who suffered bereavements during the year. Secretary, Joe Langan,, as usual presented an excellent report on the years happenings, in the club and on the playing fields, he said the big
achievement for the club during the year was the erection of a new stand in Shannon Park, that has given improved comfort to spectators.
He paid tribute to Dan Wrenn and his field committee for all their work on Shannon Park. The Secretary thanked the finance committee and the lotto committee for their fund raising effort for the club. He also thanked Deo O’Connor of Bupa Insurance and Paddy Creedon of Creedon.com internet for their sponsorship and all business people who sponsored Field Signs for Shannon Park.
He stressed the need for all players to join the GAA insurance scheme at the commencement of the football season. He said the big disappointment of the past year on the playing fields was some of the poor displays by the senior team and their lack of commitment and interest, and also the injuries to some key players did not help the situation.
The Secretary said his wish for 2003 was that it would be the year of the players. Chairman, Anthony Stack, welcomed everyone to the convention, and said it was a healthy sign of the club to see such a big attendance present. He paid tribute to all the people who support the lotto every week, and thanked the people who sell the tickets, especially the men and women who are not involved at club level.
He said we now have a pitch, facilities and stand that are a credit to the parish, and this is mainly due to our lotto, which has been our main source of income for the past ten years. Over €30,000 was spent on the new stand and steps in the past year. The Chairman thanked his fellow officers, committee and sub committees for their work and co operation during the year, and he looked forward to another successful year for the club. Club treasurers, Danny Enright and Mike Carrig gave a detailed account of the clubs income and expenditure for the year. North Kerry Board Chairman said Tarbert has the players to restore pride back in the senior team, but the effort will have to be made by all players, in regard to training and commitment.
