  Tarbert Notes - Week Ending 20th December
   
  COMMUNITY IT Access, Church St, Tarbert, proposes to offer the following computer courses for the coming year 2003. Basic course will continue as usual, one morning/evening per week. The duration of this course will be ten weeks. Modules to be covered include Microsoft Word, Exel, Power Point, Internet and Email. The follow on course will be more intense in order to give the adult students a more in-depth grounding in the Microsoft office program. This course although intense will not be lacking in fun. The course is broken into four proposed slots as follows:
1. Word Processing/File Management.
2. Spreadsheets/Information Technology.
3. Power Point/Internet Email.
4. Photo Restoration.
Amongst other courses it is proposed to run a course in Auto CAD. To reserve a place or for further details please contact the Centre. Telephone/fax: 068/36938/36939.
   
  CAROL SERVICE: An Ecumenical Carol Service will be held at St Brendan’s Church, Kilnaughtin (Steeple Road) on this Sunday, December 22, at 7pm. All are welcome.
The real spirit of Christmas will be created in Tarbert on this Saturday night after the Vigil Mass with the turning on of the lights on the Christmas Star erected on the spire of St Mary’s church. The congregation will assemble outside the church after Mass for the turning on of the lights on the Star, Crib and Christmas Tree. A pair of doves will be released over the crib as a sign that Christmas is a season of peace and goodwill.
Confessions for Christmas will be held on this Friday night, December 20, at 8pm. A number of priests from neighbouring parishes will be present. The following is the Mass schedule for Christmas. The Children’s Mass on Christmas Eve will be celebrated at 6pm. Mass on Christmas Eve, 9pm. Mass on Christmas Day at 9am and 11am.
   
  SET DANCING CLUB: West Limerick Set Dancing Club will hold its 10th anniversary celebration social at the Devon Inn Hotel on Saturday, January 4, at 8pm. Music by Michael Sexton Céilí Band. Tickets €20 (including
dinner) available from any committee member. Note: Tickets limited — spot prizes galore.
   
  TIDY TOWNS: The annual award for Tabert’s Tidiest Estate takes place this Thursday, December 19, at the Anchor Bar. The Paddy Scanlon Cup will be presented to the representative of the winning estate. A great night is anticipated and all those good people who work to keep the estates at such a high level of tidiness and the gardens so well are invited to come along. The award has been adjudicated by Seán Harrington of the County Council Office in Listowel to whom we extend our thanks.
   
  POKER GAME: The annual Christmas poker game this year is in aid of the Special Olympics Fund and will be held at the Lanterns Hotel, Tarbert, on Sunday, December 29, commencing at 8pm sharp. Entry fee €25. In June 2003 Tarbert parish will host the Special Olympics team from Jordan. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
   
  GAA LOTTERY: There was no winner of the €6,600 Jackpot in the GAA Lottery draw held at the Shannon Ferry Bar on Sunday night. The numbers drawn were: 2, 4, 8, 22. Lucky Dip winners of €30 each were: Mary O’Hanlon, Tom Kennedy, Kieran Walsh (Leitrim East), Breda Kissane. Bar prizewinners were: Bottle of Whiskey sponsored by the Shannon Ferry Bar — Eugene Mulcaire; €15 each — Kitty Griffin, Ned Holland, Marie Holly. Promoters Prize: €15, Geraldine Flavin. The next Jackpot will be €6,700 and the draw will be held at the Swanky Bar on Sunday night. It will also be the night for the Christmas hampers draw as well as many more extra prizes to be won. All are welcome.
   
  DEATH: The death took place at the Regional Hospital, Limerick, on December 13, of Mr Daniel (Dan) Culhane, Ballinagoul, Glin. He was a member of a wellknown and widely connected family and had a number of relatives and friends in Tarbert where he was well known. Dan was a man of a quiet and gentle personality and was a popular member of the farming community in Glin for many years. There was a huge attendance at the removal of the remains from St Mary’s Funeral Home, Tarbert, to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Glin, on Sunday evening and again at the funeral Mass and burial which took place in Kilfergus cemetery on Monday. He is survived by his brother Michael (Glin), sisters, Mrs Joan Dalton (Beale, Asdee), Mrs Bridie Moore (Moyvane), nephews, nieces, numerous relatives and friends to whom sympathy of the
community is extended.
Sympathy of the community is extended to Danny Gallagher, Tieraclea, Tarbert, on the death of his mother, Mrs Mary Gallagher, Creeslough, Co Donegal. She was predeceased by her son Denis, who died in October.
   
  GAA MEETING: A meeting of the Tarbert GAA club will be held in the dressing rooms on this Thursday night at 8pm.
   
  GAA CONVENTION: The GAA Convention will be held on January 4 in the Community Centre at 8pm. All nominations for club officers must be handed in to the Secretary, Joe Langan, on or before December 31.
