CONGRATULATIONS and well done to all those who competed in the Community Games Art and Model Making competition held recently in Listowel. Third place in art went to Aoibheann Prendiville, Glencullaire and in Clay modelling, third place went to Christopher Finucane, Carhoona and fourth place to Shane O’Connor, Glencullaire.
At the cross country competitions held over Easter weekend, Sinead Prendiville, Glencullaire took first place in the girls U13 1200m, and her sister Sorcha took second place. In the boys U13, 1200m, Gareth O’Connell,
Mealcon took third place. These three athletes now go forward to represent Kerry in the finals in Mosney in may. This was also the first year that Tarbert had an entry in the Project competition.
The team of Christopher Finucane, Carhoona; Micheal Healy, Tieraclea; John Healy, Doonard Crescent and Conor Flavin, Steeple Road took part in the U11section. Their project entitled “The Wishing Tree” won first place and the team now go on to represent Kerry with this project in May. This is a wonderful achievement for these four boys and everyone wishes them the best of luck and what a delight that they chose such an interesting and beautiful local landmark.
In order to help cover the cost of sending all these well deserved competitors to Mosney, the Community Games committee are planning some fund raising nights, the first of which will be a table quiz and details will be advertised later.
As always the Community Games survive because of the community. We cannot take part without your support, so please give generously.

COUNTY LEAGUE: On Saturday evening in Knocknagoshel our senior team lost to the local side by a score of 1-11 to 1-7 in the county league. Playing against the wind in the first half, Tarbert completely dominated and should have had a much bigger lead than the score 0-5 to 0-3 at the break.
Knocknagoshel completely dominated the first 15 minutes of the second half and scored 1-5 without reply, the goal coming from a mix-up in the Tarbert defence. Tarbert came back into the game with points from E O’Connell, D Lanigan and K Wrenn to leave just three points between the sides. Again the home side took over scoring some great long range points against the wind.
In the closing minutes, Tarbert got a consolation goal, but it came too late to have a chance of saving the game. It was hard to understand Tarbert’s indifferent displays in both halves. After an excellent first half, the
team’s second half display was poor and too many frees were conceded. The game was played in Knocknagoshel’s impressive new sportsfield with excellent dressing room facilities.
