  Tarbert Notes - Week Ending 17th October
   
  THE fund-raising golf classic held in Listowel recently for the Special Olympic World games was a great success, and the organisers wish to thank all who participated and sponsored the event. The next phase of the preparations is to organise accommodation, transport and entertainment for our guests from Jordan. Anyone who wishes to assist in any way is asked to attend at a meeting in the Community Centre on this Thursday night, October 17 at 8.30pm. Tarbert/Listowel will be the host towns for the Jordan team
from June 16 to June 19, 2003.
   
  WEDDING BELLS : The marriage took place at the Church of The Immaculate Conception, Glin, on October 4 of Miss Aishling Enright, daughter of Teresa and Tony Enright, Kilmurley House, Tarbert, and Mr Eamon McElligott, son of Rose and Pat Joe McElligott, Ballingare, Lixnaw. The ceremony was performed by Very Rev Mossy Brick, PP Tarbert, assisted by Very Rev Martin Madigan, PP Glin. Bridesmaids were Sinead, Eimear and Anita Enright, sisters of the bride. Best man was Thomas McElligott, brother of the groom and groomsman
were Seamus Leahy and Michael Costello. The reception was held in Ballygarry House Hotel, Tralee. The couple will reside in Lixnaw.
   
  FUN INTERACTIVE PROGRAMME: Kerry Diocesan Youth Service will run a fun interactive programme, on young peoples issues, to commence in the Community Centre from mid October. An open night will be held in the Community Centre to night, Wednesday, October 16 at 7.30pm. The programme is open to all
students from 3rd year to 6th year.
   
  COLLECTION: The special Diocesan collection to be taken up at all the masses this weekend will be for the propagation of the faith.
   
  GAA LOTTERY : There was no winner of the €5,700 jackpot in the GAA lottery draw, held at the Wicked Wolf Bar on Sunday night. The numbers drawn were 12, 14, 23, 25. Lucky dip winners of €30 each were Denis and Jane Kiely, Teresa Ryan, Rose Ahearne/Mary Moore, Kitty Griffin. Bar prize winners were bottle of whiskey, sponsored by the Wicked Wolf Bar, Eamon Condon. €15 each Eugene Mulcaire, Ann Kiely, John Brannigan. Promoters prize €15 Anthony Stack. The next jackpot will be €5,800 and the draw will be held at the Shannon Ferry Bar on this Sunday night. All are welcome.
   
  U21 TEAM: Tarbert U21 team are fixed to play Ballyduff in the semi final of the N Kerry c’ship this weekend.
   
  SENIOR TEAM : Our senior team defeated Knocknagsohel by a score of 0-14 to 0-4 in the semi final of Div 2 of the N Kerry league on Saturday in Finuge. The team will now play Ballyduff in the final. Tarbert are fixed to play
Listowel Emmets in Ballylongford on November 3 in the first round of the Bernie O’Callaghan Memorial Senior FC in association with the Lanterns Hotel and Parsons Restaurant, Tarbert.
   
  SHANNON PARK: Work on the new stand in Shannon Park is well underway and it is expected that the roof of the stand will be completed this week. The next stage of the development is to put in the concrete steps. According to field development officer, Dan Wrenn, the old advertising signs are damaged and need to be replaced. Business people in the area will be approached in the coming weeks by committee members to ascertain if they would like to have advertising signs displayed in Shannon Park. The club wish to thank the people who repaired the flood lights in the pitch, which will allow the players to continue training during the Winter months.
   
  RESIDENTS ASSOC: At a recent meeting of householders in the Lower Road, it was decided to form a Kilpadogue Residents Association. The aim of the Association is to bring many improvements to the area. A weekly raffle will be held to raise funds.
   
  SYMPATHY: Of the community is extended to Mrs Helen Sheehy (nee Stackpoole) Moyvane and Tarbert on the death last week of her father, Mr Henry Stackpoole, Aughrim, Moyvane. Sympathy is also extended to his daughter in law Mrs Jacqueline Stackpoole, nee McElligott, and to all the members and relatives of the Stackpoole family.
Regret was occasioned in the parish at the news on Thursday of the death, at her residence of Mrs Margaret Shine (nee Nolan), Kilbaha, Moyvane. Sympathy is extended to her husband, family and relatives. Large numbers from the parish attended both funerals.
