  Tarbert Notes - Week Ending 3rd October
   
  LOTTO: There was no winner of the €5500 jackpot in the GAA lottery draw held at the Anchor Bar on Sunday night. The numbers drawn were 3, 16, 24, 28. Lucky dip winners of €30 each were Melanie Cullinane, Thomas and Margaret O’Dowd, Gaye Doulerey, Joe Moriarty. Bar prize winners were, bottle of whiskey, sponsored by the Anchor Bar, John Coleman; €15 each to Veronica Langan, Brendan Keenaghan, Patrick Carmody. Promoters prize €15, Kevin O’Connell. The next jackpot will be €5600 and the draw will be held at Savages Bar and this Sunday night. All are welcome.
   
  WHIST DRIVE : The popular weekly whist drive card games will resume at Tarbert Bridewell on this Thursday night, October 3, at 9pm. All are welcome.
   
  HURLING: One of the very happy Kilmoyley supporters at the county senior hurling final in Tralee on Sunday was our parish priest, Very Rev Mossy Brick. Fr Brick, who won a county senior hurling title with Kilmoyley in 1971, had two nephews Shane and Billy Brick, playing on the victorious Kilmoyley team, who were winning the county title for the second year in a row.
   
  THANKS: Thanks to all who contributed and helped to take up the Church gate collection for the Kerry Emigrant Support Group at the weekend.
   
  LUCKY WINNER : Congratulations to Mrs Breda Brennan, St Patricks Tce, who was the lucky winner of a €5,000 jackpot draw held at the bingo in Ballybunion recently.
   
  U21: Well done to our U21 football team who scored a convincing victory over Desmonds of Castleisland in the Div A quarter final of the NK championship played in Clounmacon on Sunday. Tarbert won by a score of 3-10 to 0-7. Team: R Dillane, P O’Hanlon, J Wrenn, M Sheehan, J Wrenn, E Holly, K Deenihan, E O’Connell, F Scannell, P O’Connell, K Wrenn, N Culhane, D Lanigan, S Wrenn, A Lanigan.

  COMMUNITY GAMES : The AGM of Tarbert Community Gams will take place in the Community Centre next Monday night, October 7, at 8.30pm. All committee members are asked to attend. There are a number of committee members who are not seeking re-election and these positions will have to be filled to ensure the continuation of the Tarbert Community Games.
   
  COLLECTION: A church gate collection for the Irish Cancer Society will be taken up before all the Masses in Tarbert this weekend.
   
  SENIORS: The Tarbert senior team are fixed to play Ballyduff in the Buildstone League Div 2 play-off in Stack Park, Ballybunion on this Saturday, October 5, at 5pm. The winners will go through to the Div 2 final and gain promotion to Div 1 of the league.
   
  FURTHER SUCCESS: Following their recent successes at the Galway and Killarney races, two Tarbert race horse owners gained further victories with their race horses at the Listowel Racing Festival during the past week. On Monday, Gallileo Strike, owned by Jim Wrenn and his syndicate from Kildare, won the Ballybunion Ext Handicap and the biggest cheer of the week was heard on Wednesday, when the David Sheehan owned Shannon Rangers romped home as the easy winner of the O2 Maiden Hurdle. Best of luck and further successes with their race horse is wished to Jim Wrenn and David Sheehan.
   
  WEDDING BELLS: The wedding took place recently at St Mary’s Church, Tarbert of Miss Catherine Finucane, daughter of Kathleen and Denis Finucane, Kilcolgan, Tarbert and Mr Kevin Balfe, son of Ann and Jim Balfe, Ballinode, Co Monaghan. Bridesmaids were Anne Marie Culhane, sister of the bride, and Ruth Browne. Bestman was Mark McKenna and groomsman Francis Balfe, brother of the groom. Flower girl was Maeve Culhane, niece of the bride and page boy was Karl Finucane, nephew of the bride. The ceremony was performed by Very Rev Mossy Brick PP, Tarbert. The reception was held at the Dunraven Arms Hotel, Adare. The couple will reside in Lucan, Dublin.
   
  SYMPATHY: Of the community is extended to Mrs Eileen Leahy, Glencullaire, Tarbert on the unexpected death of her nephew, Mr Brendan O’Carroll, Moyvane South and late of Tullamore, Listowel.
