GREAT
ACHIEVEMENT: Pride of place in the parish this week goes to
Sorcha Prendiville of Pulleen who took second place in the 2000m walking
race at the International Athletic Meeting held in Birmingham on Saturday.
The race which had competitors from five different counties was a
mixed race for boys and girls U13. This was a great achievement for
Sorcha, who recently won a gold medal in the 900m walking race at
the National finals of the Community Games. At the race Sorcha had
the support of her father, Thomas Prendiville, who travelled to Birmingham
for the event. |

GAA:
Lottery - There was no winner of the €5400 jackpot in the GAA lottery
draw held at Carmody’s Bar on Sunday night. The numbers drawn were
1, 8, 22, 27. Lucky dip winners of €30 each were John and Maureen
Stack, Bridie Mulvihill, Bobby Hanrahan, Michelle and Liam Corridan.
Bar prize winners were bottle of whiskey sponsored by Carmody’s Bar
- Johnny Wren. €15 each to Kitty Griffin, Kevin O’Connell, Patricia
Griffin. Promoters prize €15, Finbarr Carrig. There will be no draw
this weekend due to the All-Ireland football final. The next draw
will be held at the Anchor Bar on Sunday, September 29, with a jackpot
of €5500. Co League - At Shannon Park on Saturday evening, our senior
team played a thrilling draw with Cromane in a vital county league
game for both clubs. The final score was Tarbert 1-9, Cromane 2-6.
A draw was a good result for Tarbert as it ensured their place in
Div 4 for the coming year. The game was keenly contested and played
at a blistering pace with Cromane coming back late in the game to
snatch a game. This was a good team performance by Tarbert with every
player giving of his best and a brilliant display at centre field
by Aidan Holly. The team line out was M Carrig, M Sheehan, D O’Connor,
J Wrenn, S Langan, S Sheehan, K Wrenn, N Stack, D Lanigan, P O’Connell.
Subs who played: P Moriarty and Denis Kiely who was making a welcome
return to the team. Other subs: Fionn Scannell, John O’Dowd and Michael
Boland, who also played. |

ALL-IRELAND
FINAL: Best of luck to the Kerry team against Armagh in the
All-Ireland senior football final on Sunday. Tickets are the big problem
for the many supporters from the parish hoping to go to the game.
The town and many homes are decorated with green and gold flags. |
